DUNE Reports - the Planetologist Collection

Share in the journey of uncovering the complex history of DUNE’s famed world of Arrakis. See it through a Planetologist’s eyes - after the reign of His Imperial Majesty Leto II.

I remember discovering the vast “DUNE” universe as a teen in the early ‘80s. Frank Herbert presented me with all the brain-food that my developing mind could handle. Grand narratives, complex characters, engaging dialogue, and fully realized vistas fill each volume in his ground-breaking and award-winning epic. I devoured each new volume as soon as it hit the shelves.

Forty years later, I continue to be absolutely captivated by the additions of Herbert’s son Brian, his co-author K.J. Anderson, and others that have created comics, movies, TV mini-series, and glorious art. I cannot count the number of times I have read the ‘Original Six’ novels and subsequent additions; I have volumes scattered throughout my home so I’m never lost for inspiration.

It is only natural that my love for this series has inspired me to create art of many kinds over the years. Time and time again, I find myself drawn to ‘characters’ in the text that seem to disappear into the background: the vistas of Arrakis, Geidi Prime, Kaitan and other planets in the Imperium.

My first Collection is presented through the lense of what I believe an “Imperial Planetologist” would find compelling.

  • What would they discover that prompts more questions? What answers would they uncover beneath the unrelenting sands of Arrakis?

  • How would they begin to unravel the mystery of the Spice Melange?

  • How did Arrakis and the secretive Fremen residents shape each other?

In this collection, you will find: sandtrout fossils, a reconstructed image of Shai Halud, the suspected entrance to the Fremen “sietch” Cave of Birds, and rare images of water - on Arrakis. Natural water on a desert world is a rare find. Emperor Leto II had an effect on more than just the landscape(s) of His Imperium; a Planetologist would find this impossible to resist.
